Seattle Kraken prospect Jacob Melanson scored his first professional goal for the Coachella Valley Firebirds in their 8-2 win over the San Jose Barracuda on Saturday.
Melanson was drafted 131st overall in the 5th round of the 2021 NHL draft by the Kraken.
In his draft year, Melanson tallied 19 points in 18 games for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
The 6 ‘1, 205 lbs, forward has NHL size while also playing a physical game.

In four games with the Firebirds, Melanson has 14 penalty minutes.
Melanson finished his junior hockey career with the Sherbrooke Phoenix of the QMJHL after being traded from his previous team.
In 32 games, he finished with 55 points, adding another 15 points in 14 playoff games.
Melanson seems to be fitting in well with the Firebirds in his first professional season, and has the attributes to be a depth player at the NHL level if his development goes as planned.
