The Utah hockey franchise that was originally the now defunct Arizona Coyotes step closer to branding itself with a new name as it has narrowed its search to six candidates.

After a whopping 520,000 fan votes it appears that the Blizzard, Mammoth, Outlaws, Venom, Yeti, and Hockey Club appears to be the final six choices as newly minted owner Ryan and Ashley Smith of Smith Entertainment Group prepare to take the next step.
It's been a wild ride for this franchise as less than two months ago the Utah hockey team was not on the horizon. It became clear the NHS needed a change in the desert southwest as the coyotes who have meandered through the desert looking for a new home for the last 20 years had reached an end.
Former Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo along with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and Smith Entertainment Group decided to negotiate in secret and put together a package to ensure the business side of the Coyotes would transfer to Utah and that the Coyotes name and trademark would be shelved for five years.
With the name on the horizon, and renovations set to begin to the Delta Center to accommodate the hockey team it's an exciting time for Salt Lake City and the state of Utah as sports seems to be descending on the state at a rapid pace.
