The Kraken Are Developing Their Own Brad Marchand

Jacob Melanson made his presence felt on Thursday, seen as a prospect who many people aren't high on, he sure caught people's attention. He opened up the scoring, with a high slot shot halfway through the first, off of a beautiful blind pass from Shane Wright.

It was the 20-year-olds first goal at the NHL level, however; it being pre-season, the real first career goal will have to wait.

Not only was he just noticeable on the score sheet, but on the ice as well. He was wreaking havoc on the opposition, getting under players' skin. In one instance, he whacked away at goalie Thatcher Demko, causing a pileup in front of the goal.

He was a true pest on the ice, giving glimpses of a true Brad Marchand type. Even coach Dave Hakstol had a few things to say about Melanson after the game;

«Mel got off to a good start,» Hakstol said. «He's a hard-working guy that finally got into a game, and they knew he was on the ice, right? He went out and got to the net, stirred things up a bit, played hard, played physical. That was a good start for him. It tailed off a little through the second and third period, and that's what you learn as a young guy.»

Melanson will head back to Coachella Valley this season, but for most young players, the goal in training camp is to leave your mark. He clearly did that this week.
