Kraken's Tye Kartye Aiming for Regular Season Role

When Tye Kartye, the Kraken forward, returned to his hometown of Kingston, ON, after an impressive AHL Calder Cup Finals run with Coachella Valley and his first taste of NHL action during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he received a mix of reactions from family and friends. Going from an undrafted free agent to a postseason hero sparked both admiration and surprise.

"Some people said, 'Wow, that's great,' and others were a little surprised because it's been a different path for me and wasn't always straightforward like a lot of other guys," Kartye reflected with a smile during a pre-training camp chat. "But that's alright because I agree – it was kind of surprising but also pretty cool."

After a recent practice, Kartye appeared comfortable and confident. He scored an unassisted shorthanded goal in Calgary, demonstrating his skills. Despite his success, Kartye remains focused on securing a spot in the Kraken's opening night roster.

"I'm looking to prove why I was successful in the playoffs and compete as hard as I can to earn a spot here and show I belong," Kartye emphasized. "Being a good teammate and working hard are essential aspects of it."

As a potential fourth-line forward, Kartye is concentrating on bringing intensity to all areas of the ice, particularly in the Kraken's defensive systems.

"Being in the right spots in the D-zone, especially as a winger, is important. Knowing what to do and having your stick in the right lanes is really important. I try to be in the right spots and learn fast when I'm not in the right spot. If I make mistakes, I want to learn from that and not make those same mistakes again,"
Kartye explained.
