Shane Wright has been featured in many headlines over the past week due to the historical situation he's facing.

The 2022 fourth overall spent a portion of the season with the Kraken before a short stint with the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the AHL.
Players under 20 typically can't spend time in the AHL due to an agreement with the CHL. After his triumph at the World Juniors, Wright was ultimately sent down to the OHL and was an unstoppable force with the Windsor Spitfires.
With most of the Kraken's players returning to the team, there is no guarantee that he'll be able to crack the team's opening night roster.
Since Wright is only 19, if he fails to make the team, he should be sent back down to the OHL, where he has nothing else to prove.
He averaged just under 2 points per game last season, and it's clear he's outgrown the league.
There had been talks around the league that the Kraken would be asking for an exemption to play Wright in the AHL, which has yet to be done but would most likely be the best option for the youngster's development.
Elliotte Friedman held his 32 Thoughts podcast today, where he made an important declaration in that regard:
"If he does not make the Kraken, I'm under the impression that the CHL agrees that it doesn't make any sense for him to go back there, and Wright will go to the [AHL]."

Wright was allowedgames last season in Coachella Valley, and he collected 6ints through that span. He also had 37 points in 20 games in the OHL, and it's clear that he has no business in that league anymore.
For his development, would it be better for him to graduate to the AHL instead of returning to the Juniors, where he's outgrown the calibre?
