A former NHL player faces a significant suspension following a dangerous hit in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Anton Lindholm, currently with Leksand in the SHL, received a match penalty for his shoulder-to-face hit on opponent Henrik Bjorklund from Färjestad.

The SHL's Disciplinary Committee has handed Lindholm a five-game suspension and a fine of just over $7000 USD. Lindholm, who has been a part of Leksand for three seasons, delivered the hit with his team trailing 3-0.

The committee emphasized that Bjorklund didn't put himself in a vulnerable position, making Lindholm solely responsible for the dangerous hit.

The ruling stated,
"The hit involves a great risk of injury and is disrespectful." "The tackled player cannot in any significant way be considered to have contributed to the tackle hitting the head."

Lindholm, who played 66 NHL games, all with the Colorado Avalanche, before departing the league in 2021. Bjorklund, drafted by the Calgary Flames in 2009, has not played in North America.
