LATEST | Recent ranking highlights the Kraken's Scouts work: The future is bright in Seattle

EP Rinkside has released its 2023 NHL Prospect pool rankings. The Seattle Kraken has been ranked #9 in the rankings. The Kraken are entering their third season and boast some promising young talent.

Shane Wright was the club's 4th overall pick in 2022. It is easy to see why Wright has big expectations. The ultra-talented center was granted exceptional status in the OHL as a 15-year-old. In his first season, he scored 39 times, adding 27 assists for 66 points. In his draft year, Wright scored 94 points in 63 games. Many people expected Wright to be the #1 pick in the draft. He unexpectedly fell to 4th overall. Last was his first professional year, where he spent time between three teams. The 19-year-old played on the Kraken, where he was in the line-up for eight games, registering 2 points. Wright also played on the Coachella Valley Firebirds, scoring 6 points in 8 games. He finally returned to the OHL, where he played for Windsor. He racked up 37 points in 20 games. This season, Wright was granted acceptance to play in the AHL, where he will start his season.


Eduard Sale was the Kraken's first-round selection, 20th overall in this season's draft. The 18-year-old played for the professional club Brno Kometa. In his two seasons, Sale recorded 17 points in 53 games. In last season's World Championship, the winger scored 6 points in 7 games, showing off his exceptional playmaking ability. Sale will play in the OHL for the Barrie Colts this season.



Jagger Firkus was the Kraken's 2nd round selection, 35th overall in this season's draft. The 19-year-old spent 4 seasons in the WHL with the Moose Jaw Warriors. Firkus is a pure sniper with a wicked shot. His puck skills are excellent. The Kraken will hope they can add his offensive talent to their team very soon. Last season, Firkus scored 40 goals, adding 48 assists for 88 points. Firkus signed his entry-level contract with the Kraken and is on an amateur tryout with the Coachella Valley Firebirds.


Ty Nelson was the Kraken's 3rd round selection, 68th overall in the 2022 NHL draft. The 19-year-old will enter his 3rd season in the OHL with the North Bay Battalion. The defensemen are electric offensively. He has a riffling slap shot and has NHL-like poise when handling the puck at the point. Last season, Nelson scored 24 goals, adding 52 assists for 76 points.


The Kraken also has prospects Ryker Evans, Ryan Winterton, Ty Kartye, and Jani Nyman making waves. The #9 ranking is a very fair assessment for the team.
